On March 8, 2006, HDE provided a powerpoint presentation on longitudianl joint heating to the specification committee of the Tennessee DOT. The presentation included a history of joint heating done by HDE since the Province of Quebec, Canada, enacted a hot joint specification in 1995 by either echelon paving or joint heating.

At the request of TDOT, a second presentation was done to various department heads on March 20, 2006.

TDOT has since decided to go ahead wit two longitudinal joint heating test sections. The first was on an 8 mile surface coat application of US Highway 70, west of Jackson, TN. The contractor for the project, Ford Construction Co of Dyersberg, TN, completed the 8 mile test section in three days of paving at speeds of 25 to 35 feet per minute. Various tests on the joint are now being conducted by TDOT.

Attending part of the test section was a representative of Roadtec, Inc., Mr Jim Walton, International Sales Manager. Mr Walton used a Flir infrared camera to monitor the success of the joint heating and his report is attached.

The second test section will be a 7 mile resurfacing to be done in mid July by Standard Construction Co of Germantown, TN.

HDE 1000 MV Unveiled

1000atairportThe HDE1000MV operates on liquid propane and is converted into a vapour by a CGA approved vapourizer. This also allows the whole tank to be emptied creating a very effecient machine. An option is available for 6 tank hookups if needed.

Other options include:
* Tooling Starter Kit
* Safety Light Kit
* Bomag Compactor

The HDE1000MV has a waste box for excess asphalt. A crane is used to empty it out at the end of the day. The same crane can also be used to lift the compactor into place for transport.

In the Field Test Results
In tests done in the summer of 2001, the HDE1000MV was capable of repairing up to 2000sq/ft of asphalt a day (with a 3 man crew, 1300 - 1400 sq/ft per day is realistic). The fuel consumption was an average of 3 - 100lb tanks per day.
